A Company of Fools presents The Merry Wives of Windsor

Celebrating their 10th anniversary of Torchlight Shakespeare, A Company of Fools is bringing The Merry Wives of Windsor to parks all over Ottawa this summer. Yes, this is Shakespeare comes to you.

John Doucet and Catriona Leger talk about The Merry Wives of Windsor and give you a peak at one of the scenes:

A look at The Merry wives of WindsorLove and marriage, jealousy and revenge, men and women, English, French and Welsh all collide in this classic clash of cultures, combat of convention and battle of the sexes.  Falstaff, a rascally rogue with a penchant for drink, women and mischief, arrives in the small town of Windsor to get up to no good. Underestimating the intellect of the middle class, he attempts to woo two married ladies at the same time, not realizing for a second that they are onto him.  The wives of Windsor are merry indeed as they use and abuse Falstaff for their own amusement – giving him hard won lessons in matters of the heart (and maybe teaching their husbands a thing or two as well)!  All set against the natural backdrop of Ottawa’s parks shaken and stirred with an Edwardian twist. This highly physical production promises to have audiences of all ages rolling in the aisles (or on the lawn, rather).

William Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor is directed by Catriona Leger.  It stars Simon Bradshaw, John Doucet, Melanie Karin, Matthew John Lundvall, Geoff McBride and Katie Ryerson.

The show runs from July 3rd to August 17th at parks around Ottawa with a 7pm start time. (Check A Company of Fools website to see when the tour comes round to a park near you.) Pay what you can donations (by cash or cheque) are accepted at the end of the show. “Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, bug spray and a sense of humour.”
