Prix Rideau Awards announces Matt Miwa as new Executive Director

The Prix Rideau Awards continues to solidify its standing and mandate within the arts community with the addition of a new staff position - Executive Director, and is pleased to announce OYPTS instructor and artist Matt Miwa in that role.  While still dependent on the work of many tireless volunteers, the addition of this position will allow for consistent artistic and administrative leadership for the organization.

From the official media release from Prix Rideau Awards:

The Board of Directors for the Prix Rideau Awards is happy to announce Matt Miwa as Executive Director for the Prix Rideau Awards.

“The creation of our first part-time staff position, Executive Director, represents an exciting new phase for the organization, now in its seventh year of operation,” said Board Chair Ian Stauffer. “The Board of Directors wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to all volunteers, past and present, who have built the Prix Rideau Awards into what it is today, and look forward to its continued growth under this new leadership model.”

Matt Miwa is a bilingual theatre, video and performance artist who is known to both the English and French theatre communities. His passion for professional theatre in Ottawa, and his eagerness to contribute to its growth and development, make him an exciting asset to the Prix Rideau Awards.

“I’m very much looking forward to joining the team, and to continue the work of making this organization a dynamic touchstone for Ottawa’s multifaceted and bilingual theatre community,” says Matt Miwa of his new position.

As Executive Director, Matt Miwa is the artistic and administrative head of the Prix Rideau Awards. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director oversees the year-round operations of the organization including the work carried out by volunteer committee members in preparation for the annual gala. Working in tandem with committee and board members, it is the Executive Director’s job to fulfill the organization’s mandate and ensure its continued growth and presence in the Ottawa-Gatineau community.

The Prix Rideau Awards was founded in 2006 to celebrate, encourage and promote French and English locally produced professional theatre work and its artists.
